WHAT WE OFFER

Are you looking for a new job?

Are you not quite sure how to sell yourself or where to start?

Custom Resumes can help!

A resume that highlights your strengths and indicates why YOU are the best candidate for the role is an essential tool for making a great first impression during the job application stage. Your resume is one of your most important promotional tools and you only have one chance to use it to impress a potential employer. You might be the perfect candidate for the job, but unless your resume genuinely reflects your skills and personality, your resume may not even pass the first screening of applicants, which ultimately means not getting to chance to interview and landing your dream job.

However, many people don’t have the time, the writing skills, or the knowledge required to create a great resume. Many of us wonder things like: "Should I include every job I've ever had?" "What if I was laid off?" "Should I put my academic record first?" or even "Where do I begin?"

These questions arise from the instinctive understanding that, from the moment a resume hits the recruiter’s desk, the competition is intense. Human Resources and recruitment professionals receive an average of 100 applications per posting. These applications need to be scanned very quickly, sometimes in a matter of seconds. Typically, after this initial scan, 5 or 6 applicants will be invited for an interview. This means that approximately 95% of resumes are discarded after just one look. It is imperative that your resume demonstrate – clearly and succinctly – that you are the perfect person for the job.

To create a positive, lasting impression, you must have a concise, professional, and attractive resume that emphasizes your relevant experience and is customized for your desired role. Our team can help you to present an engaging professional profile with an effective and polished resume.

ABOUT THE CUSTOM RESUMES TEAM

Custom Resumes was founded on the conviction that most people have more to offer than their resume may suggest. Our group of consultants and Human Resources professionals established Custom Resumes based on extensive recruitment experience. Reading an average of 150+ resumes every day, and interviewing 400+ business professionals each year, we saw few candidates who presented themselves effectively. Most resumes were mediocre, some were appalling, and very few were outstanding. But we met many great people who had more skills than we ever could have guessed by reading through even the lengthiest poorly written resume. Along the way, we worked with other recruiters, Human Resources professionals, writers, and proofreaders who had similar experiences working with great people who had terrible resumes. We all came together as the Custom Resumes consulting group to help job seekers present their skills, and get attention from the employers best poised to use their unique talents.

THE BIG QUESTION: What can Custom Resumes do for you that you can't do for yourself?

Human Resource and recruitment professionals discard approximately 95% of resumes after a single scan. The remaining 5% will be evaluated to assess how well they meet the minimum requirements of the position. These resumes will be scrutinized once again and only top candidates will be invited for a first interview. To be considered a top candidate, and to get an invitation for the interview that will ultimately lead to you getting hired for the job, your resume has to stand out.

The catch, however, is that while recruiters and Human Resources professionals are experts with this kind of material, most people only grapple with resume-writing once every 3 to 5 years, or less. Even communications experts may have an easy time creating a resume package for someone else, but feel blocked when trying to write about themselves. The Custom Resumes team are skilled at resume writing. We know what employers are looking for in your resume:

  • What have you accomplished? Specific, measurable, and verifiable achievements show how you can succeed for an employer.
  • Can you do the job? Your resume needs to be customized for each application you submit to show how you can fulfil the job requirements.
  • Will you be a long-term employee? Employers are most interested in employees who will stay with them for a long time. Hiring a new employee is a big investment of both time and money. Dates on your resume will tell an employer how often you switched companies and whether you seem stable in your career choices. There are ways to emphasize skills over length of employment, as well as ways to deemphasize dates.
  • How professional are you? An employer will judge your level of professionalism based on your resume. They want to know, for example, whether they can trust you to send an email to a major client. They will look to see if there are typos and grammatical errors, and whether your message is clearly communicated.
  • Do you have the right personality for the job? Your resume has to capture your reader's interest and use the right keywords. Your resume is sometimes the only chance you will have to sell yourself and gain the interest of a prospective employer.
  • Are you skilled with the visual presentation of information? Your resume not only has to have the right content but the right look. The way your resume is formatted allows for the reader to see what you want them to see in a logical, compelling order.
  • Will your resume pass the computer test? Most employers currently use applicant tracking systems to process the thousands of resumes they receive. Some will add filters to their job postings to screen relevant resumes and save time. If your resume does not contain the relevant keywords, chances are it will never even be reviewed by human eyes.
